Additional Details

One of a series of fruit and vegetable images by the renowned Californian photographer. He wrote in his daybook during this period: "For the first time in months, I am excited to work. . . . Cabbage has renewed my interest, marvellous hearts, like carved ivory, leaves with veins like flame, with forms curved like the most exquisite shell." This print was apparently released to the press to promote his first book, The Art of Edward Weston, in 1932. The attached clipping refers to the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles. with--a 1950 copy print of Weston's "South Shore, 1938," moderate wear, ink stamps and clipping on verso.
